Conference Finals Revisited: The Rise of the Illuminati or a Flashback to the Bubble?

Some perceived the conference finals in the Orlando Bubble as inconceivable in a normal health context. The COVID-19 crisis is now behind us… but not Lakers – Nuggets and Heat – Celtics, who are coming back in just a day! Are we facing the rise of the Illuminati ready to shake our pandemic-recovered society? Or just one flashback of the good old days when the only outing of the day could not last more than an hour?

Oh dear, the COVID-19… The days hanging out on Netflix or on the Playstation, the exit authorizations worn out by dint of erasing and rewriting the date and time of day, the aperitifs on Zoom or with the neighbors but in keeping the hedge as a separation. That was our confinement. For others, in the United States, confinement was more like a nose irritated by the daily tests or the meal boxes brought to room service by Disney Florida employees. Yeah, on paper, the Bubble was not the burst. But the videos of Tacko Fall learning to swim, or Donovan Mitchell getting screwed at the cornhole by Luka Doncic were enough to guarantee our smile, so a minimum drawn.

And for some, the matches were skewed : a small neutral room, without an audience, very creepy because full of heads by Skype, with different teams because of players troubled by the situation and confinement at Disney World. In short, everything that indicates that this bubble was a separate temporal space… but not so apart. Three years later, here we are again with the same conference finals.

On the Atlantic side, we find ourselves with a rather classic matchup, because it will be the third time in four years that we have beaten Boston – Miami in the Conf’ Finals in the East. Again, that’s a lot there, isn’t it? Teams have evolved since the bubble : Jaylen Brown plays with a Batman mask, Jayson Tatum has had time to grow some hair essential to his development, and is now “one of the best players in the world. Jimmy Butler, meanwhile, continues to perform like a Greek god despite injuries and fatigue. On the peaceful side, it is clear that we did not expect to see the Lakers in the conference finals, after a very difficult start to the season (2-10). There trade deadline thankfully put some butter back into the gnocchi, and here they are again near the top of the West. On the Nuggets side, Jamal Murray had time in three years to freelance at the hospital and Nikola Jokic to nab two MVP titles and see his horses win races. TAll those who said in 2020 that the Nuggets were there by chance can therefore return home, because that time is over.

In three years, everyone has had time to age (except LeBron). Some even had time to change teams and face their elders, like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope this year, who will find Los Angeles on the last step of the West.
