The 49-year-old head coach from Riedau will most likely end up in the English Premier League. A pure relegation battle awaits him.

Crystal Palace: This will be Oliver Glasner’s new football home

Hours after his presentation he was still in the role of spectator at Goodison Park. There he watched his new team’s away game at Everton. Crystal Palace was formed by Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington from the previous coaching staff. Glasner should actually have made his debut against a competitor trying to stay in the league, but respect for predecessor Roy Hodgson delayed taking office.

Hodgson cleared the way

Last Thursday, when the 76-year-old’s transfer was long underway, Hodgson collapsed in training and was taken to hospital. The club legend – Crystal Palace was his first club as a player in 1963 – was allowed to announce his farewell himself.

“I understand that, given the recent circumstances, it may be advisable at this time for the club to plan ahead and that is why I have taken the decision to step down,” said Hodgson, who has been safely discharged from hospital. A little later, Glasner was announced as his successor.

On Saturday against Burnley

As was the case recently in Frankfurt, Michael Angerschmid and Ronald Brunmayr are assisting him. New to the coaching team is Emanuel Pogatetz: as a player at Middlesbrough and West Ham, he brings Premier League experience. On Saturday, Glasner will be the second Austrian coach after Ralph Hasenhüttl (2018 to 2022 at Southampton) in the coaching zone in the Premier League – in the home game at Selhurst Park on Saturday against penultimate Burnley (4 p.m.).
