The confiscation of data carriers protected by editorial secrecy, specifically the mobile phone and computer of a Carinthian investigative journalist, is “devastating” for the judge and author Oliver Scheiber. At a lecture in the Concordia press club in Vienna, Scheiber said on Friday: “It’s a bit devastating when something like this happens in democratic times. How do we want to defend the basic legal system when something like this happens in quiet times?”
