The Congolese government announced on Monday the reopening of its land and river borders, closed in 2020 to counter the coronavirus pandemic. The authorities have just taken a series of relaxations of health measures following a meeting of the national coordination for the management of COVID-19, in particular the reopening of land and river borders and the lifting of the curfew. The curfew, set from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, the two main cities of Congo, also epicenters of the epidemic, has therefore been lifted, according to the Congolese Minister of Communication, Thierry Moungalla. The government has also lifted the closure measure for nightclubs and other enclosed and leisure spaces. But the tenants and managers of these establishments will have to require their customers to present proof of their vaccination. Likewise, sports and mass activities will resume, respecting barrier gestures. The compulsory tests carried out until then on entry into Congolese territory have been abolished. However, the government has always called for the intensification of the vaccination of the population and the wearing of masks in closed places and for events with a large population. Congo has so far recorded a total of 23,967 cases, including 378 deaths, since the start of the epidemic in March 2020.
