Conmebol asks FIFA to “find a path together” to host the 2030 World Cup

Luque (Paraguay), Mar 31 (EFE).- The president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), Alejandro Domínguez, proposed this Friday to FIFA “to find a way together” to host the 2030 World Cup in South America.

Domínguez addressed the FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, during the 76th Ordinary Congress of Conmebol, in the Paraguayan city of Luque, and asked him to “celebrate 100 years of the world”, a kind of tribute to the realization of the first edition of the soccer world championship, in Uruguay 1930.

“It’s not the 2030 Cup, this is the Centennial Cup”expressed Domínguez in his speech at the beginning of the Ordinary Congress.

assured that The South American candidacy, shared by Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay for the 2030 World Cup, will honor the “memory” and “history” of this sport.

“We are preparing and we are going to be ready,” he said.

On the occasion, the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia, was decorated for his “management” at the head of the governing body of football in his country.

“This is recognition from your peers for your management. At the request of the Council, we want to give you this award, which you have more than deserved”, said Domínguez.

For his part, Infantino, who arrived in Paraguay this Thursday to be present at the Congress, thanked Domínguez for his words and greeted all the sports leaders present at the Conmebol Convention Center, including the executive president of the FIFA Foundation and former Argentine president Mauricio Macri.

The Congress is the highest body of Conmebol and meets ordinarily every two years to consider the report and the general balance of the past year, the budget of expenses and resources for the following year, matters included by the executive committee in the agenda , the report of the finance commission and the representatives of the Confederation before FIFA.
