His comeback had been in the air for several days. Several sources announce the return of Conner Rousseau to the political scene. Melissa Depraetere, the president of the party, will communicate at 4 p.m. this Wednesday, via her Instagram account.
Conner Rousseau will normally occupy the place of list “pusher” in East Flanders, in the regional list for the Flemish parliament.
The Flemish socialist resigned from his post as party president last November, following revelations in the press about racist remarks he had made while leaving a bar. He attacked the Roma community with shocking remarks. During a drunken evening, the young socialist notably told police officers that the Roma were “brown trash”, and that he could not “clear out all the dark scum alone”

Since his resignation, Vooruit has struggled in the polls. The left party notably saw the CD&V snatch third place from it in our last Grand Barometer, in March. The pressure was therefore increasing on the shoulders of the man who had raised his party to a very high level in voting intentions.
