Construction Simulator: our editor no longer wants to get off his digger at Gamescom

Gamescom 2022 has games in droves. For our author Sven Galitzki, the highlight so far was precisely a game of an unappreciated genre. We present to you Construction Simulator.

There are games in droves – and in every possible genre. Our author, Sven Galitzki, was particularly smitten with one game, although he has always made fun of games of this genre so far.

Construction Simulator: Pure Fun – Even If You Don’t Like The Sims

In the video game industry, there are now simulations in spades, and in almost every field. When we think of this term, we therefore for a long time no longer think of hardcore flight simulations like DCS: World or extremely realistic racing simulations like rFactor 2. In the meantime, there are also many rather bizarre games, but at the same time successful, such as the Surgeon Simulator, the Agricultural Simulator or even a Power-Wash Simulator.

But for die-hard simulation fans, many of these games are often frowned upon and gladly labeled trash sims, unworthy of that label – whether because of their poor quality, execution, setting, or simply their lack of realism.

Myself, as an avid Flight Sim fanatic, I’ve always avoided ‘wannabe sims’ in the past, until I was cheated by a representative of the genre at Gamescom 2022 and got fired up. for a series I once laughed at.

The new Construction Simulator is pure construction fun

This is the sim it’s about: The game that really caught my eye was the new Construction Simulator, which is slated for release on September 22, 2022 and is currently playable at Gamescom 2022. It’s actually a a big playground where kids, teens and adults can let off steam on more than 70 construction machines of all kinds (most of them licensed and faithful to the original), either alone or together in multiplayer.

The game allows you to undertake all kinds of construction projects on two large maps (one in the United States, the other in Europe), for which you have to learn and perfect the use of the different construction machines. It’s about growing your own construction business and overcoming a lot of challenges.

You can get a first idea of the game here:

Bau-Simulator: What’s in the Details:

  • 70+ additional construction machines, vehicles and equipment
  • A map inspired by the United States and a second by Germany, each with its own campaign
  • Over 90 construction missions, including building roads and bridges
  • 9 new licensed partners like Doosan, DAF and Cifa, totaling 25 world famous brand manufacturers
  • Strauss licensed workwear – for the first time in series history
  • Dynamic alternation of day and night
  • Improved vehicle and earthmoving system
  • Cooperative multiplayer up to 4 players
  • Cross-gen multiplayer on consoles
  • Smart delivery on Xbox and free upgrade from PS4 to PS5, plus DualSense features on PlayStation 5

That’s why the new construction simulator is my biggest crush so far: First of all, the new construction simulator is a lot of fun – for me who is a fan of complex simulations, but also for players who are not used to playing The Sims. The gameplay is quite challenging, very varied and requires a certain dexterity. Each machine has its particularities and its mechanisms that must be learned and mastered.

Some Construction Simulator construction vehicles

It’s not a hardcore sim, but it offers much more realism and detail than most comparable representatives of the genre. The graphics are really good, the sound is top notch, the vehicle fleet is authentic and even the controls – especially given the huge number of machines – are very well done. The set is really convincing on the eve of the release, which is unfortunately not always the case for comparable games. By the way, those who prefer to enjoy the construction feeling with friends are also at the right address. Indeed, in the multiplayer game, everyone can get their hands dirty and undertake a project together.

In short: even though Gamescom is just getting started, I’ve already had the opportunity to admire a few of the upcoming games and so far the construction simulator is definitely my biggest crush. And whether you’re big or small, if you’ve always dreamed of letting off steam on a construction site with an excavator, crane, concrete mixer or forklift, you’ve come to the right place and should definitely check it out.
