Third case of monkeypox confirmed in Switzerland
A new case was declared in the canton of Zurich without the FOPH specifying the origin of the contamination of this person.
A third case of monkey pox has been confirmed in Switzerland, in the canton of Zurich, the Federal Office of Public Health (OFSP) said on Thursday. The first two had been detected in the cantons of Bern and Geneva.
The FOPH did not provide any details regarding this third case. The first two concerned people who had been infected during trips abroad.
Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by viruses that is transmitted from animals to humans, but can also be transmitted from human to human. In recent days, the presence of this rare virus, endemic in parts of Africa, has been reported in several European countries, as well as in the United States.
