Contreras, Cardinals reach five-year deal

Venezuelan catcher Willson Contreras and the Cardinals have reached a five-year, $87.5 million deal, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

Catching was a position that the St. Louis squad was looking to fix following the retirement of Puerto Rican catcher Yadier Molina at the end of the season.

The Cardinals historically haven’t been very involved in free agency, but it looks like they’ll go to that market to answer some questions.
