Edgbaston: Former Aussie opener Matthew Hayden and former skipper Ricky Ponting have spoken out once morest English pacer Ollie Robinson’s over-the-top performance following Australia beat England by two wickets in the first Test of the Ashes series. Hayden was angered when Robinson bowled Usman Khawaja, who scored a century in Australia’s first innings, through a yorker. Hayden quipped that Robinson was a pace bowler who only clocked 124 km/h and then showed such enthusiasm.

During a conversation with Ian Healy, Hayden said that Robinson is a pacer who does not want to be remembered. Ian Healy’s question was who is Robinson? Hayden’s reply was that there is no need to remember people like him. After using obscene words once morest Khawaja, Robinson asked if former Aussie captain Ricky Ponting had behaved in this way with English players in the past and there was no problem then.

But Ponting said Robinson was dragging his name unnecessarily and should try to focus on his own game. England have not played once morest this Australian team yet. Similarly, the heat of the Ashes is unknown. If he doesn’t study even following the first test, then he is behind in learning. If he’s still thinking regarding what I did 15 years ago, there’s nothing to say. He will soon understand. Ponting also said in the ICC Monthly Review that he will have to improve his own skills before he can provoke the Aussies in the Ashes.
