Chennai ∙ It is alleged that the ED filed a case of money laundering against the farmers who had only Rs 500 in their accounts to help the BJP leader. The inclusion of caste name in the summons for questioning also became controversial. Farmers protested in Salem demanding immediate government intervention against this. The controversy is raging over the summons sent by ED 6 months ago.

The incident started with the complaints and civil case filed by the BJP Salem East District Secretary G. Gunasekhar against the farmers S. Kannaiyan (72) and his brother S. Krishnan (65) regarding the land in Atoor, Salem. Gunasekhar had filed a complaint alleging that his family had previously leased out the agricultural land that the brothers were trying to sell. While the case was progressing in court, Kannayyan and Krishnan were summoned last June to appear for questioning in the money laundering case.

The caste name ‘Hindu Pallavar’ was also added to this. The brothers alleged that the ED was called to pressurize them to give the land to Gunasekhar. They alleged that Gunasekhar was only a tool and that it was a part of a plan prepared on top of 600 acres of land adjacent to the hill. However, Gunasekhar denied the allegations.

ED said that the case was registered on the complaint filed by the forest department officials for killing the wild animals included in the protected list and the forest department has also used the caste name. Explained.

Meanwhile, Krishnan and Kannayyan, who appeared at the ED office in Chennai, have confirmed that they are not involved in illegal money transactions and have only Rs 500 in their bank accounts.
