The White House on Friday accused Elon Musk of “abject promotion of anti-Semitic and racist hatred” in one of his messages on his social network X, formerly Twitter, according to AFP.

The billionaire had responded on Wednesday to a post which claimed Jews were promoting “hate against whites”, saying: “You have said the exact truth.”

For the White House, the billionaire’s post merely repeats a popular conspiracy theory among white nationalists that Jews have a secret plan to encourage illegal immigration to Western countries to undermine the white majority in those countries.

This conspiracy theory had been picked up notably by the perpetrator of the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue attack, in which 11 people died.

“It is unacceptable to repeat the heinous lie behind the deadliest act of anti-Semitism in US history,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement, referring to the attack.

After his initial response, Elon Musk went on to say that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an association that fights anti-Semitism, “unfairly attacks the majority of the West, despite the fact that the majority of the West supports the Jewish people and Israel.”

“This is because they cannot, according to their own principles, criticize the minority groups that are the main threat” to the Jewish people, he added.

ADL is one of the NGOs that has reported a significant increase in misinformation and homophobic and racist slurs on X since the moderation rules were changed with the arrival of Elon Musk.

The owner of Tesla and SpaceX already attacked the ADL in early September, saying the group is “responsible for the majority of X’s revenue losses.”
