New twist in the Thomas & Piron affair. As a reminder, the construction company has the ambition to create a subdivision of 28 housing units on a meadow of 1.79 hectares in Boncelles.

In the context of this file, the municipal authorities as well as the local residents did not hesitate to express their dissatisfaction with this large-scale project. The municipal council of November 2022 had notably refused the construction of a new road. A few months later, on March 24, 2023, the municipal college of Seraing refused the planning permit linked to the Thomas & Piron project. The company then filed an appeal with the Walloon government, which officially upheld the City of Seraing and the inhabitants on Monday 7 August.

A decision which was motivated by several factors: the level of danger of the intersection, considered as accident-prone at the level of the rue de l’Eglise, was not taken into account in the complaint; the future road does not comply with the legislation relating to the fight against fires; even if Thomas & Piron had the will to make a junction between the rue des Châtaigniers and the new subdivision, it turned out that the construction company did not have land control over the neighboring plots at the level of the said rue des Châtaigniers .

The City of Seraing is pleased to note that the concerns of the municipal college and local residents have been taken into account in the verdict of the Walloon government.
