Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)– Talk regarding banning the showing of the animated movie “Turning Red” in Kuwait sparked widespread controversy on social networks, amid comments on the reason for it being banned.
The film tells the story of a girl who reaches her teens and turns into a red panda when she gets too excited. The events of the film deal with the physical changes and the girl’s interests in puberty and her feelings regarding how others view her.
The film was released globally in March, and it is produced by Walt Disney and Pixar.
While CNN in Arabic has not been able to confirm an official decision on the film, data from cinemas in Kuwait does not show that the film is on their lists.
Famous Kuwaiti news accounts on Twitter also stated that there was a decision to ban his show because it “contains suggestions of puberty.”
The website Imdb, which is specialized in documenting artistic production and its manufacture around the world, classified the film as a family movie.
And many Twitter users interacted with that, amid divergence of opinions and reactions. While some praised the decision, others criticized it, saying that puberty “is something that happens to all human beings” and that it is included in the country’s educational curricula.
