Controversy over alcohol advertisements near high schools

According to France Assos Santé (or National Union of Approved Health System Associations), it is high time to act so that advertising directly or indirectly linked to alcohol is more regulated. It was following the discovery of several of these advertisements in sensitive locations in Limoges (Haute-Vienne) that a campaign was launched.

As indicated by our colleagues from France Bluethis communication campaign called #BalanceTaPub aims to identify all alcohol-related advertisements that have been placed in inappropriate places.

This is how in the city of Limoges, advertisements for alcoholic drinks were seen on a bus shelter at the exit of the hospital and near a high school. Promotions for beer were also posted in the school supplies section of a supermarket.

For France Assos Santé, it is obvious that these advertisements have a negative impact and encourage alcohol consumption by trivializing it. The inter-association organization suggests several avenues such as a ban on advertising within a 200 meter radius around schools, large-scale prevention campaigns and an increase in prices in order to discourage consumers.
