Thiruvananthapuram – The CPM Secretariat said that it was decided to take Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s body from Chennai directly to Thalassery and then to Kannur on the basis of doctors’ advice to avoid a long journey.
The state secretariat has explained the matter without directly stating that Kodiyeri, who was a minister and CPM state secretary, was denied the opportunity to pay his last respects in the capital in the context of criticism from many quarters. State Secretary MV Govindan had also explained this at the commemoration meeting in the capital. The party members were also surprised that Kodiyeri’s physical body was not brought to public view at the AKG Center in Thiruvananthapuram, which became Kodiyeri’s karma mandal for half a century.
The party informed that Kodiyeri’s body was affected by prolonged illness and that is why the doctors advised him to avoid long journey after his death. Efforts were made to provide him with the most expert treatment. And gave hope of return. The flow of people who loved him came to Thalassery and Kannur. The firmness of that respect is also shown by the fact that the people cooperated with the arrangements with perfect discipline. The party suffered a huge loss.
