“The taking of images is carried out with the sole purpose of graphing the activity carried out by the institution’s staff, their presence and the correct use of the uniform,” the Argentine Naval Prefecture informed federal judge Paula Marisi, position of the presidency in the trial taking place in Neuquén for crimes committed during the military dictatorship.
The last hearing of the trial for crimes against humanity took place on December 15. In the Prefecture’s defense, it was insisted that it was “internal directives” of the Prefecture custody for the security operation in the hearings of the Escuelita VIII trial.
Former judge Pedro Duarte and former prosecutor Víctor Ortiz are accused in this process for their actions in 1976 following the kidnapping and torture operations of missing detainees in the region.
Duarte and Ortiz are prosecuted for providing judicial coverage for the disappearances, without calling testimonies, nor requesting reports in procedures with witnesses, for example, of kidnapping operations.
The former judicial officials assured that they learned about the torments and disappearances during the return of democracy. The prosecution accused them of being part of the military regime’s task groups.
In order to avoid actions that could be questionable by the personnel involved in the security of the hearings, the taking of any type of record will be void.
