Excellent long-term partnership

Vienna (OTS) On Friday, August 18, 2023, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and the director of the Austrian mobility club ÖAMTC, Oliver Schmerold, met for a joint press event at the Wachauring in Melk. The reason was to honor the long-standing partnership and to emphasize the joint efforts to increase road safety. As a visible sign, the military police were on site, using the premises of ÖAMTC Fahrtechnik for their special driver training.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner emphasized the role of the federal army in daily street operations: “Our soldiers are not only present on the training grounds and on missions for our country, but also on the streets to ensure the safety and protection of the population. The close cooperation with the ÖAMTC enables us to raise awareness of safe behavior on the road and to develop effective accident prevention measures. The partnership between the Ministry of Defense and the ÖAMTC is of essential importance as it continuously improves traffic safety on domestic roads.”

The long-standing cooperation between the Armed Forces and ÖAMTC reflects the commitment to road safety. Both are committed to raising awareness of safe driving and developing innovative approaches to avoiding accidents.

“In order to be able to keep up with the constant changes in terms of road traffic and vehicle technology, regular training and active driving training in all target groups is essential. It is therefore particularly important to us to be able to continue to support the high level of specialist motor vehicle personnel in the Austrian Armed Forces with our training after more than 30 years,” said ÖAMTC Director Oliver Schmerold with satisfaction.

In order to increase road safety, it is also important to start with young drivers and thus also with conscripts in order to prepare them for a safe mobility life. In the multi-phase driving safety training courses of the ÖAMTC driving technique, new drivers are introduced to possible emergency situations and learn to master them on extensive slopes. Both institutions are determined to continue their partnership and further promote road safety in the country.
