Coronavirus in Belgium: less than 200 patients in intensive care, but slight increase in hospitalizations

From March 2 to 8, nearly 143 hospital admissions on average were recorded each day due to coronavirus, an increase of 3% compared to the previous reference period, according to data from the Institute of Public Health. Sciensano published Wednesday morning. In total, 2,007 hospitalized people are positive for Covid-19 (-8% in one week), including 197 treated in intensive care (-12%). The reproduction rate of the virus is 1.02, but it is when it is less than 1 that this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down.

Between February 27 and March 2, 6,181 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day, a decrease of 5% compared to the previous week. The positivity rate shows 21.1%, a slight increase of 1.6%.

During the same period, 17 people died per day on average from the virus (-29%), bringing the death toll to around 30,300 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.
