Coronavirus: minors spend the night in cells after a lockdown party

The judge finally decided to place the minors under house arrest for a month, between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Sept minors were arrested on Saturday evening during a “lockdown party” in Kapellen, near Antwerp. They spent the night at the police station before appearing before the juvenile judge on Sunday morning, an Antwerp judge said on Monday, confirming information from VRT NWS. The parents of minors denounce the behavior of the police and the prosecution, which they consider disproportionate to the facts.

There are, however, “clear directives” from the prosecution and the police apply them, explains Luk Versteylen, also a youth judge in Antwerp. “The prosecutor can send young people to the juvenile judge when they are arrested during a ‘lockdown party’, if there were problems during the arrest or if the young people were in a state of recidivism. “

The minors were first questioned by the police during the night, then returned to the juvenile judge on Sunday morning. “Seven young people who had to be heard, just like their parents, it can easily take a few hours,” adds Luk Versteylen.
