Correction last paragraph

St. Polten (OTS) “Chamber of Commerce President Harald Mahrer got somewhere with his statements on working hours, but at least not in the present and certainly not in the future,” said Markus Wieser, President of the Chamber of Labor and ÖGB Lower Austria Chairman. All ideas after longer working hours are not only outdated, but also completely without any basis.

As the AK Lower Austria pointed out and defined in the “Memorandum of 3V”, the number of available working hours has fallen by 120 million over the past decade as production has increased. At the same time, the number of employees increased by 350,000. “Therefore, the main question will be how to distribute the existing work fairly and well paid to as many people as possible. New technologies like AI will only drive this trend even further,” says Wieser.

Instead of thinking about extending working hours, Mahrer would be well advised to finally ensure that those who have previously contributed little or nothing are used to finance the solidarity state. Despite an increase in productivity, only 60 percent of the added value comes from human labor, while 40 percent comes from machines, robots or other assets. “This gap in the financing of the solidarity state urgently needs to be closed,” concluded Wieser.
