Councilor of Viña del Mar upset by decision “without consultation” to end with fireworks | National

Viñamarina mayor, Macarena Ripamonti, stated that 2021 was the year of the last fireworks show in the garden city, and that a new way of doing the show should be thought of. The decision, however, generated divided opinions among the authorities. Those in favor argue that it is necessary to think about new technologies that do not pollute and those who do not, ask that a citizen consultation be carried out to take into account the opinion of the population.

The mayor of Viña del Mar, Macarena Ripamonti, confirmed that this 2021 will be the last year of the fireworks show in the commune. The news generated conflicting opinions among city councilors.

The mayor explained that it was decided to carry out this last year as a way to reactivate the economy in the summer season and promote the arrival of vacationers to the area.

However, he expressed that externalities must be constantly questioned, so the pyrotechnic show, in his words, will be the last in the area.

We waited for the firing of fireworks for the last year, but due to obligations that were already pending, we have decided to do so due to the ailing state of the local economy.

On this, the communal authorities showed divided opinions before the announcement of the mayor. Those in favor argue that we must think of new technologies that do not pollute as fireworks do.

Those were the words of the councilor, Nancy Diaz, which indicated that, as Neighborhood Council, they had requested it.

“Because we have to take care of the environment, we have many children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that causes them a lot of pain and, of course, for the animals, which we consider sentient beings. This is a country issue, linked to climate change ”, he asserted.

However the councilor, René Lues, he regretted that this announcement by the communal chief has not been consulted with the bulk of the population, since, for him, it is essential to carry out a citizen consultation.

“The mayor publicly delivers this information without even having consulted it or asked for an opinion. We are a communal council that we have to collaborate on on these types of issues. They cannot be decisions of a single person, one-sided. They must be consulted with the council and, given their relevance, also with the community ”, demanded Lues.

It should be noted that there is a security and cleaning plan drawn up with the Municipality’s Human Security Directorate, in conjunction with the Government, so that the show is carried out in a normal way and there are no problems.
