“Coup plotters violated human rights, but they will not be destitute”

“I am in favor of relentless combat under the terms of the Law against organized crime, people who try to destabilize democracy and coup d’état. Every coup plotter is invariably a violator of human rights. this, invariably, suppressing, trampling, violating human rights. Even those who commit very serious crimes, as is the case of the destabilization of Brazilian democracy, these people will not be abandoned”

The Minister of Human Rights, Silvio Almeida, said this Wednesday (12) that anyone who stands against democratic institutions violates human rights. The minister participated in a session at the Public Security Commission of the Chamber of Deputies. Almeida pointed out, however, that even so, the “coup plotters” must be treated with dignity and in accordance with the fundamental principles of these rights.

“I am in favor of relentlessly combating organized crime, people who try to destabilize democracy and coups d’état under the terms of the Law. Every scammer is invariably a human rights violator. Every person who thinks and who advances against democratic and republican institutions, invariably does so by suppressing, trampling, violating human rights, ”he said.

“Even those who commit very serious crimes, such as the destabilization of Brazilian democracy, these people will not be abandoned”, emphasized the minister.

This Tuesday (11), the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes and Rosa Weber, went to the Papuda Penitentiary Complex to visit the 294 prisoners suspected of the anti-democratic acts of January 8 — 86 women and 208 men.

The authorities went to check the conditions of the penitentiary and assess the food. They spoke with the management, with the suspects, evaluated the prison structures and Moraes even tasted the food.

At the commission, Silvio Almeida stressed that it is important to look back at the prison system with respect for human dignity. “I express my joy in knowing that parliamentarians pay attention to the Brazilian prison system so that we can contain torture and recurrent and historical mistreatment in the Brazilian penitentiary system”, he emphasized.
