On the 31st, the arrest warrant for Bae, who is a key figure in the alleged misappropriation of corporate cards, was dismissed on the 31st.
Judge Kim Gyeong-rok of the Suwon District Court dismissed the preliminary arrest warrant for Bae, who is accused of breach of the Public Official Election Act and breach of trust in his work this morning.
The court stated the reason for dismissing the warrant, saying, “In view of the evidence collected so far, there is a need to guarantee the right of defense of the suspect, and it is difficult to believe that the necessity and relevance of arrest at this stage have been sufficiently explained.”
It is known that Bae deposited all the amount corresponding to work-related breach of trust before the interrogation of the suspect (warrant substantive examination) held on the morning of the 30th.
After the interrogation, Bae, who was escorted to the Suwon Nambu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province around 12:30 pm, did not answer the reporter’s questions, “Do you admit to the charge of personal misappropriation of corporate cards?” and “Is there any instructions from Kim Hye-kyung?”
Bae is a key figure in this case, suspected of serving as Kim’s assistant while serving as a special grade 5 public official under the General Affairs Department of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office from July 2018, when Lee was serving as the Gyeonggi governor, to September last year.
Bae is accused of paying for Kim’s personal food with a Gyeonggi corporate card during this period.
At first, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government’s own audit was investigated for 7-8 million won, but as a result of the police investigation, it is known that the amount of misappropriation of corporate cards was more than 100 cases, equivalent to 20 million won.
That’s almost three times the amount in the police investigation.
The arrest warrant for Bae was dismissed, but the police plan to complete the eight-month investigation into the ‘beop car allegation’ that has been ongoing since the allegations were raised earlier this year, and forward the case to the prosecution this week as scheduled.
Earlier, the police completed most of the investigation, including summoning Kim, who had been designated as Bae’s ‘superior’, as a suspect on the afternoon of the 23rd.
