Covid-19 in Brittany: contaminations are falling, unlike hospitalizations – Coronavirus

After weeks of deterioration of the health situation in Brittany, finally a clearing. In its weekly update, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Brittany reports a “slight improvement”.

Yes, the Breton incidence rate is falling this week, but the indicators remain particularly high, and “hospital activity continues to increase markedly” warns the ARS. Finally a clearing… but a small one.

  • First drop in contamination for a month
  • 54,548 new positive cases have been recorded in Brittany over the past seven days, compared to 62,361 the previous week. That is a decrease of 12.5%. It had been a month since the weekly contaminations had not decreased.

However, with more than 50,000 cases in one week, the number of contaminations remains particularly high. Was it a threshold that had been exceeded? on January 7, for the first time since the start of the epidemic. It was then necessary to wait until February 11 for the curve to go back below. The bar has been crossed again for two weeks.

  • The incidence rate drops by 10%
  • Like the contaminations, the Breton incidence rate is down this week. With an incidence rate of 1,675.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, Brittany is no longer the most affected region in mainland France, overtaken by Corsica and Normandy.

A figure down 10% after weeks of increases. Be the second good news this week. The Breton incidence rate, however, remains above the national average, currently 1,395 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • More than four out of 10 tests positive
  • The positivity rate is following the downward trend and stands at 41.8% this Friday. This means that more than four out of 10 tests are positive in Brittany. This has been the case for two weeks.

However, it decreases slightly, and loses 1.3 points. This means that the virus circulates less, regardless of the number of tests carried out.

  • More than 600 hospitalized patients
  • As specified by the ARS, hospital indicators “are increasing significantly” this week. With a number of hospitalizations for covid which exceeds the 600 mark, 607 covid patients are currently hospitalized in Brittany, compared to 566 last Friday, and 498 a month ago.

Among them, 44 are in intensive care. A figure that is on the rise again after a month of decline. 47 patients have died in the past seven days.

  • In the Côtes-d’Armor
  • The Côtes-d’Armor are no longer the most affected department in metropolitan France. With an incidence rate of 1,790.2 (down 13% in one week), it now ranks fifth.

10,640 new cases were recorded there this week, compared to 12,119 the previous week. The department’s positivity rate (43.4%) remains the highest in the region, but it lost 1.3 points.

  • In Finistère
  • 14,723 new cases of covid were identified this week in Finistère, against 17,650 last Friday. Declining contaminations, such as the incidence rate which lost 292.1 points. It is now 1,691 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the 8th highest in metropolitan France.

The positivity rate, which exceeded 45% last week, fell to 42.6% this Friday.

  • In Morbihan
  • Morbihan is doing better than its neighbors with an incidence rate of 1,491.2, but the indicator is down only 4% compared to last week.

11,140 new cases were recorded in the department in seven days. This is also a slight drop of 7% compared to the previous week. The test positivity rate is 42.1%.

  • In Ille-et-Vilaine
  • 18,045 new positive cases were recorded by the ARS in Ille-et-Vilaine this week, compared to 20,614 the previous week. The incidence rate of 1,729.1 is also down (by almost 8%), but it is the second highest in the region behind Côtes-d’Armor, the 6th in metropolitan France. The test positivity rate is 40.1%.
