Covid-19 in Brittany: encouraging signals, but still more patients in intensive care – Coronavirus

Third week of improvement in the health situation in Brittany. And this time, even hospital activity “records a slight decline”, notes the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Brittany.

  • Contaminations

  • 30,753 new positive cases were recorded this week in Brittany, compared to 47,801 last week. That is a decrease of 36% which is accentuated significantly compared to the two previous weeks.

However, this drop in contaminations is undoubtedly overestimated due to the presence in the equation of Easter Monday this week, during which very few tests were carried out.

  • Incidence rate

  • The incidence rate fell by more than 500 points this week, and stood at 1,025.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. About one in 100 Bretons was therefore positive this week.

Three weeks ago, Brittany was the most affected region in mainland France. It is now in sixth position, following this drop of 33% in seven days.

Although it is close, its incidence rate is still higher than the national average of 982.63 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • Positivity rate

  • 42.3% of the tests carried out in Brittany this week were positive. This is the highest positivity rate in France, and the only one with that of Reunion above 40%.

After two weeks of slight decline, the indicator is on the rise again. However, an increase in the positivity rate means that the virus is circulating more, regardless of the number of tests carried out.

  • Hospitalizations

  • Good news on the side of the hospital activity. After more than a month of rising hospitalizations, the latter are starting to fall again this week. 614 patients are currently hospitalized for covid in Brittany, 39 less than last Friday.

The number of patients in intensive care continues to increase, however, since four people joined the Breton critical care services this week. There are currently 50 there. 53 patients died this week.

  • In the Côtes-d’Armor

  • The most affected department in France three weeks ago, the Côtes-d’Armor are doing better. Its incidence rate of 1,012.5, down 35% in one week, is now the 36th highest in mainland France, and the 3rd in Brittany.

5,722 cases were identified in the department in seven days, and the test positivity rate there is 42.4%. Down slightly.

  • In Finistère

  • Like all the Breton departments, the incidence rate of Finistère is in free fall this week, and loses more than 500 points. Currently at 1,095.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, it is now the 18th highest in France.

8,896 cases were recorded in the department this week. The positivity rate of 43.9% is however the highest in Brittany, third highest in France, behind the Channel and Mayenne.

  • In Morbihan

  • 6,400 new positive cases were recorded by the ARS in Morbihan this week. The department’s positivity rate is particularly high. 43.8% of tests were positive this week.

Morbihan’s incidence rate is the lowest in Brittany, below the national average, and the first to drop below 1,000 in the region. It is this Friday of 955.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down 33% in one week.

  • In Ille-et-Vilaine

  • 9,735 new contaminations were identified this week in Ille-et-Vilaine. The department’s incidence rate fell by 34% to 1,021.4.

The positivity rate remains the lowest in the region but increases by almost two points. It goes from 38.2% last week to 40.1% this Friday.
