Covid-19. Vaccine deliveries: Pfizer and BioNTech plan to limit delays to one week

The American group Pfizer, associated with the German laboratory BioNTech, announced on Saturday a plan which should allow to limit to one week delivery delays of vaccine against the Covid-19, while Europe feared to see weakening the deliveries of doses during “three to four weeks”.

Pfizer and BioNTech have developed a plan that will increase manufacturing capacity in Europe and deliver many more doses in the second quarter, the two companies announced in a joint statement.

We will revert to the original schedule of deliveries to the European Union starting the week of January 25, with an increase in deliveries starting the week of February 15, added the two groups.

Temporary reduction

To do this, certain modifications to the production processes are now necessary., said the two partners.

The American group Pfizer, associated with the German laboratory BioNTech, had unexpectedly warned on Friday that he was not going to be able, until early February, to supply EU countries the weekly quantities to which he had committed.

Berlin had mentioned a drop in pace for three to four weeks.

In their latest press release, Pfizer and BioNTech indicate that their factory in Puurs will experience a temporary reduction in the number of doses delivered in the coming week.
