Paris, March 9, 2022

On March 9, 2022, the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, and the French Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Gender Equality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities, Élisabeth Moreno, went to Pantin to the headquarters of 3919, a national platform for listening and guidance for women victims of violence.

During their visit, the Commissioner and the Minister were able to meet the 3919 teams and discuss with them the daily operation of the platform, the extension of its 24/7 hours in force since August 31, 2021. as well as the impact of the Covid-19 health crisis.

Commissioner Dalli then presented the proposal for a European directive “Combating violence against women and domestic violence” adopted yesterday on the occasion of International Women’s Day by the European Commission. This ambitious text aims to establish a common European framework, by defining minimum standards in terms of prevention, protection, support for victims, access to justice, cooperation and coordination of services. In concrete terms, this means that all European women will be assured of being protected by similar measures throughout Europe.

Durant son intervention, European Commissioner Helena Dalli said that: “Violence against women fuels inequalities between women and men, by limiting their ability to flourish and hold responsibilities in society in the same way as men. There is an urgent need to respond firmly and with ambition to the increase in violence. The European Commission’s objective and commitments are clear. Today, we are bringing to the fore a legislative proposal that lives up to our international commitments. With our proposal, we are moving the lines for women and girls in Europe. »

The Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Equality between Women and Men, Diversity and Equal Opportunities, Élisabeth Moreno, declared that: “Building a more egalitarian Europe is a priority for the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In this context, equality between women and men is a major objective that must underpin all our public policies. Major cause of the five-year term of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, the issue of equality cannot happen without the eradication of violence against women. The directive adopted yesterday by the European Commission constitutes, in doing so, an important step to always better protect women, everywhere in Europe. On this occasion, I am delighted to have welcomed Commissioner Dalli to Paris today in order to present to her the work of 3919, our national platform for listening to and guiding victims, whose hours we have extended to 24 hours a day. and 7 days a week last year. It was a strong expectation of the victims themselves and a request from the associations that the Government has implemented”.
