FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl welcomed the “patriotic fellow campaigners from all over the world” in a video message at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest today. He emphasized the bond between Austria and Hungary. The two neighbors are small countries, so it is all the more important to “defend our interests against the big ones,” said Kickl.
“Hold of national self-determination”
That is exactly what Hungary and Viktor Orban are doing. He is thus “a role model for many in Europe – for many citizens and for the politicians who still care about the concerns of their citizens”. It is not the first time that patriots from all over the world have gathered in Hungary. “Hungary is a haven of national self-determination and resistance to globalist access from Brussels.”
As a NATO member, Hungary is opposed to the EU’s “bellicose sanctions policy” and is committed to peace between Russia and Ukraine. “A position that the government of neutral Austria is not capable of because of its EU affiliation.”
Kickl further praised the fact that Hungary is also fighting against mass immigration. The EU is unwilling and unable to “protect Europe’s borders from these invaders”. Rather, the EU would protect the “invaders” from being deported back to their homes.
“Fortress” vs. “Immigration Magnet”
Kickl gave figures on the subject of asylum. While 112,272 asylum applications were made in Austria in 2022, there were a total of 45 applications in Hungary. “That’s the difference between a proud fortress and an immigration magnet with a social hammock stretched out.”
The two-day meeting – originally a key event for US Republican hopefuls – began yesterday in Budapest. “Established in 1974, CPAC brings together hundreds of conservative organizations and thousands of activists,” the website says. In fact, radical, racist and extreme right-wing representatives of political parties and currents are now gathering at the meetings that have been taking place around the world for a few years.
