CR7’s 700th club goal allows Manchester United to raise their heads at Everton

Manchester United never ceases to surprise its world in the Premier League. Having fallen to their lowest point after their XXL setback in the Manchester derby against City (3-6), the Red Devils have come back up the slope faster than expected on the side of Everton (2-1), so far the best defense in the championship. Even with the bright opener from Alex Iwobi (5th) in favor of the Toffees, United relied on one of their in-form players and one of their legends to regain the upper hand. Two recoveries in the midfield then two perfect finishes from Antony (15th) and Cristiano Ronaldo (44th) offered a sixth victory to theirs to find a place in the Top 5.

But beyond the success, it is also the way that suggests new perspectives for this Manchester United version Ten Hag. Faced with an opposition to put into perspective, the leg of the Dutch coach appeared in sequence with more fluidity in the game, interesting combinations, offensive edge and a consistent midfielder Eriksen-Casemiro. A fruitful cocktail – despite several defensive wanderings at the end of the match – which remains to be confirmed during the next outings, but which allows to temporarily restore some color and hope to these Red Devils.

Cristiano Ronaldo signed up for 700e but at the club

The return to grace of CR7

Almost ostracized on the bench by his coach for several weeks, the 37-year-old Portuguese took advantage of Anthony Martial’s injury to enter on tiptoe half an hour into the game. For only a few minutes, just the time to (re)take your bearings and reverse the course of the meeting as usual. By his speed and his foresight, he dismantled a central defense in distress at the end of the first period.

On a high recovery from Casemiro in midfield, the connection between the two former Real Madrid players immediately worked. Well launched in depth, Cristiano Ronaldo (44th) dropped Conor Coady in the race and adjusted from the left Jordan Pickford. A goal synonymous with rebirth since his last in the Premier League, on May 2, and history with his 700th club achievement.

A point of honor also to derail Everton hitherto effective and pragmatic in its pressing. Like Casemiro’s loss of the ball and the finesse of Iwobi’s sequence (5th) to come and clean the Mancunian skylight of David de Gea. An engagement which however left traces and spaces for Antony (15th), also well served by Martial and came fixed this time on the right and a rolled up left Jordan Pickford, abandoned by his defense. The man who was worth 100 million there already scored his third goal in three matches in the Mancunian jersey.

A rise in power which continued in the second period with the same Cristiano Ronaldo as an unfortunate finisher (58th) and altruistic passer of the head for Rashford who saw his break goal invalidated (81st). And spearheading the animation for his partners with the attempts of Casemiro (53rd), Martinez (64th) or Eriksen (74th). Everything is not to be kept, especially in defense as the last chances of Everton by Onana (71st, 90th) and Garner (90 + 1st) and the successive corners in additional time made the Mancunians fear the worst. They must continue with the Europa League and a busy league schedule with tough receptions from Newcastle and Tottenham, all before another Premier League classic on Chelsea ground.
