Cracking Down on Residency and Border Violators: Latest Updates and Penalties

During the past month, joint field campaigns in all of the Kingdom resulted in monitoring and seizing more than 11,000 violators of residency, work and border security regulations. In this context, 675 people were arrested while trying to cross the border into the Kingdom illegally, of which Yemenis constitute 54%. 44% were Ethiopians, while the remaining 2% were from other nationalities. On the other hand, 197 people were arrested for trying to cross the border outside the Kingdom in an irregular manner.

In the face of this situation, legal procedures are currently being implemented once morest 35,700 violating expatriates. 26,161 of these violators were referred to diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents, and 3,407 of the violators were referred to complete their travel reservations. As for the rest, 4,508 violators, they were deported.

The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that people who help violators of the border security system to enter the Kingdom, transfer them within it, or provide shelter or any assistance or service in any way, expose themselves to harsh penalties, up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to one million riyals, in addition to Confiscating the means of transportation and housing used in the shelter, and defaming them.

It should be noted that these crimes are considered among the major crimes that require arrest and violate honor and trust, and the Ministry urges to report any cases of violation to the numbers (911) in the regions of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and (999) and (996) in the rest of the Kingdom’s regions.
