New Delhi ∙ The carpet spread in the new Parliament building was made by 900 artisans from Uttar Pradesh. Handicraftsmen from Bodhini and Mirzapur districts spent 10 lakh hours weaving the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha carpets.

A 100-year-old Indian carpet company called Obity took up the construction. 150 carpets each were made for Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. 35,000 square feet of carpet was spread. Obity Carpets Chairman Rudra Chatterjee said that it was a very difficult task and the construction was done with utmost care.

Red is used in the Rajya Sabha and peacock green in the Lok Sabha. The project was taken up during 2020 covid. Stitching operations started in September 2021. He said that the carpet will be installed in the Parliament building by November 2022.
