Credit holidays in 2024. There will be changes: a new entry into force date and threshold

Government work on the so-called project credit holidays in 2024 are coming to an end. On Monday, the Minister of Finance presented his latest proposal for acceptance by the Council of Ministers, with several amendments to the original version.

Important change of date

As a rule, you will be able to take credit holidays four times this year, but due to the later expected entry into force of the Act (due to prolonged legislative work), the dates important for borrowers are changing. Thus, in the second quarter of this year (i.e. from April 1 to June 30 this year), it will be possible to apply to the bank to suspend two monthly installments. In the third quarter – by one, and in the fourth quarter – also by one.

The current project provided that the suspension would be for one month in March this year, and in the case of subsequent quarters – for one month in each quarter.

New access criterion

It is worth recalling that according to the project prepared by the Ministry of Finance, not all holders of housing loans in PLN will be entitled to take advantage of loan holidays (and this was the case in 2022 and 2023). There will be an access criterion here – only those who spend at least 35% on loan servicing each month will be eligible for relief. their income (installment to income ratio of 35%).

At the same time, there will be one more limit – the consumer will be entitled to suspension of loan repayment if the value of the loan granted does not exceed PLN 1.2 million (previously there was a limit of PLN 2 million).
