G7 Foreign Ministers call for humanitarian pause in Gaza

The G7 foreign ministers called on Wednesday (8/11/2023) to implement a humanitarian pause in Gaza, in order to facilitate the creation of a safe corridor that allows the immediate entry of aid. Likewise, they asked to do everything possible to avoid an escalation and expansion of the conflict.

On the other hand, the G7 condemned the “terrorist attacks” of the Islamist group Hamas and “other groups”, as said by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa. According to Kamikawa, the G7 foreign ministers called for “the immediate release of the hostages”, called for respect for international laws and pledged to “get involved” in the search for “a lasting and stable solution in Gaza to achieve lasting peace.” (MS/MN/efe/afp/reuters)

Israeli minister: “Netanyahu did not talk about occupying Gaza”

Ron Dermer, Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, assured in an interview with the American network MSNBC that Netanyahu “did not talk about occupying Gaza” after the war with Hamas.

“We have completely withdrawn from Gaza for 17 years and they returned us a terrorist state. It is obvious that we cannot repeat that,” Dermer said.

“When Hamas is no longer in power, Israel will have overall security responsibility for an indefinite period,” Dermer explained. Asked how he will exercise that responsibility, Dermer said the question is still open, but assured that “it will not be an occupation” and admitted that Israel will face the dilemma of the day after ending Hamas. “Who will manage Gaza? If it is a Palestinian force that governs Gaza for the well-being of its inhabitants and without wanting to destroy, then we can talk,” she said. (MS/MN/afp/dpa)
