Cristiano Ronaldo to miss Al-Nassr’s AFC Champions League Elite trip to Uzbekistan

Al-Nassr head coach Ange Postecoglou is preparing two alterations to his starting XI ahead of Monday’s AFC Champions League Elite fixture against Pakhtakor, with Abdulelah Al-Amri and Samu Costa set to return for the trip to Tashkent.

The tactical adjustments arrive as the Saudi Pro League side manages a congested fixture list in continental play. Al-Nassr currently sits ninth in the western zone group with three points from two matches ahead of the clash at Pakhtakor in Tashkent.

Defensive Reshuffling and Tactical Adjustments in Tashkent

According to Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah, Abdulelah Al-Amri is expected to slot back into the heart of the defence alongside Spain’s Inigo Martinez. Al-Amri watched from the bench during the previous 5-3 domestic victory over Al-Khaleej on Thursday in the 12th round of the Saudi Roshn League, where French defender Mohamed Simakan partnered Martinez instead.

Postecoglou has opted to leave Simakan, Kingsley Coman, and 41-year-old Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo out of the travelling party entirely. ESPN reported that Postecoglou told a news conference in Uzbekistan he rested the trio “given the pressure of matches and the amount of travel involved.”

Samu Costa Returning to squad End of one-match yellow-card suspension

Midfield Reinforcements and Continental Context

In the middle of the pitch, Portugal’s Samu Costa makes his return to the matchday squad. Costa served a one-match suspension during Thursday’s win over Al-Khaleej after accumulating a threshold of yellow cards following a booking against Al-Faisaly in the 11th round.

Al-Nassr enters this fixture seeking to correct a stuttering continental campaign. After suffering a 4-0 defeat to Al-Ain and rebounding with a 3-1 victory over Neftchi Fergana, the club’s third-round meeting with Al-Wasl was postponed.

Pakhtakor approaches the match holding 12th position in the West group table, one point behind their visitors. The Uzbek side secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Xorazm Urganch on Friday, though defensive concerns linger as defender Khozhiabar Alizhonov remains a doubt after being forced off in the first half of that encounter.

Following Monday’s fixture in Uzbekistan, Al-Nassr aims to return to domestic action on Friday, November 6, when they face Al-Hazem in the Saudi Pro League, where Ronaldo’s potential participation will depend on fitness evaluations by Postecoglou’s coaching staff.
