With his hat-trick against Tottenham this Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo he reached 807 goals scored in official matches, surpassing the 805 attributed to the Austrian and Czechoslovakian Josef Bican, until now considered the top scorer in history (1931-1955).

With this incredible number of goals scored since his professional start in 2002, the Portuguese superstar can already lay claim to being the best goalscorer in football history, even though that honorary title remains a matter of debate, with figures differing according to sources and the parties taken or not into account.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a shot from 25 meters to the top corner (1-0, min. 12) before putting his team ahead again from inside the box (2-1, min.

38), three minutes after Harry Kane’s equalizer for Tottenham from the penalty spot. And in the final stretch of the match he put his team ahead again with a header (3-2, min. 82), after Tottenham had put the tables back on.

The Portuguese broke the 800-goal mark at the beginning of December, with a brace against Arsenal (3-2).

CR7 has scored 691 goals with the teams in which he has developed his career (Sporting, Manchester United on two occasions, Real Madrid and Juventus de Turín), and 115 with the Portugal national team, which also makes him the top scorer in the history of your national team.

The demands of Pelé and Romario

The Brazilian legend Pelé claims for his part, on his Instagram account, having scored 1,283 goals throughout his career, counting unofficial matches. Most sources, however, agree that “King” Pelé scored 767 goals in official matches.

Another Brazilian, the former international attacker Romario (55 years old), claims a “personal total” of 1,000 goals counting those scored in youth categories, in friendly matches and gala matches. Other sources however attribute 772 to him.
