The film “Critical Zone”, by Iranian director Ali Ahmadzadeh, won the main “Golden Leopard” award at this year’s edition of the Locarno International Film Festival.

It is noteworthy that the film, which is an Iranian-German co-production, reflects in encrypted images the daily life in a society where freedom has remained just a dream for many people. Ukrainian director Marina Froda, who resides in Kiev and Berlin, also won the best directing award for the movie “The Steppe”, which is an international co-production co-financed by German producers. The feature film tells regarding rural life in Ukraine, far from the war.

In the Young Talents Competition, German director Katharina Huber won the award for Best Young Director for the Social Panorama (A Beautiful Place), and Isolde Haldorodottir and Stravros Tsavairis, the two heroes of the German novel “Touched Possessive”, which was also screened in the competition, were also honored.
