Criticism against Nupur Sharma: An open letter to the Supreme Court – Nupur Sharma | Prophet Remarks Row | Supreme Court

New Delhi – An open letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice N.V. Ramana condemning the Supreme Court’s criticism against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her remarks against the Prophet during a channel discussion. The letter has been signed by 117 people including 15 former judges, 77 ex-officers and 25 retired army personnel.

The two-judge bench’s observation that they are solely responsible for what is happening in the country is a ‘virtual acquittal of the Udaipur beheading’, the letter said. The unfortunate and unprecedented comments from the bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice JB Pardiwala are inconsistent with judicial ethics. The observations are not related to the issue raised in Nupur’s petition. I don’t understand why Nupur’s case is being considered on a different bench. Such an approach of the Supreme Court does not deserve applause. The letter also said that it would affect the sanctity and majesty of the Supreme Court.

Former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Kshitij Vyas, former Judge of Gujarat High Court SM Soni, former Judges of Rajasthan High Court RS Rathore and Prashant Aggarwal, former Judge of Delhi High Court S.N. Dhingra, former IAS officers RS Gopalan, S Krishna Kumar, former top police officers SP Vaid, PC Dogra, Lt Gen VK Chaturvedi (retd), Air Marshal SP Singh ( Retired) have signed the letter.

The Supreme Court criticized Nupur by rejecting Nupur’s demand that the cases registered against him across the country should be considered together. Judges Suryakant and J.B. Pardiwala pointed out that their release set the whole country on fire and they alone are responsible for everything that is happening now. The court also blamed cheap publicity, political agenda and other nefarious interests behind such remarks.
