WASHINGTON.- In the midst of international tensions in the Middle East and with the war in Ukraine in the background, several officials, including some Republicans, criticized the silence of the American Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, for having entered on New Year’s, without notifying the White House nor to other authorities. It took the Pentagon three and a half days to inform the White House regarding the defense secretary’s internment.

Senior Defense Secretary officials say Austin did not inform them until Thursday that he had been admitted to the intensive care unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
