‘Cruel attack on protesters’: Demand for arrest of Sri Lankan PM

Colombo: Complaint calling for the arrest of the Prime Minister who unleashed an attack on the peaceful protests in Sri Lanka. The complaint was filed by Attorney Senaka Perera in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. Rajapaksa’s followers carried out a brutal attack on the protesters.

The petition seeks the arrest of Mahinda Rajapaksa, MPs Johnston Fernando, Sanjeeva Edirasanjeeva Edirimanne, Sanath Nishantha, Moratuwa Municipal Council chairman Samasaman Lal Fernando and senior police officials Deshabandhu Tennakoon and Chandana.

The people of the country are facing a severe financial crisis.
The people protested once morest the government due to non-availability of essential commodities and rising prices of goods. Following this, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned. Ranil Wickremesinghe has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
