Crushed to death in an automatic car wash

A man was crushed to death on Friday following getting out of his car while it was at an automatic car wash in Escondido, California.

His body was believed to have remained inside the car wash for more than 30 minutes before being discovered, police said in a statement. The 56-year-old found himself “trapped between his vehicle, a 2014 Scion XB, and the mechanical parts of the car wash.”

According to information from NBC San Diego, the man exited his vehicle shortly following entering it with his vehicle.

The police department still does not know why the man acted in this way, but confirmed that the car wash was not activated at the time of the incident.

An alarm was triggered, and the employee on duty notified the emergency services.

First responders were able to lift the man’s car to free him. Resuscitation maneuvers were performed, without success.

The man was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was confirmed dead.
