Guadalajara, Jalisco, July 2, 2025 – Teachers and students from the University Center of Administrative Economic Sciences (CUCEA) of the Universidad de Guadalajara (UDEG) recently participated in a significant event that could define Mexico’s economic landscape. The Second National Forum, themed “The T-MEC at the Crossroads: American Neoprotecting, Nearshoring, and the Mexico Plan,” took place at the Federal Chamber of Deputies, attracting over 130 specialists from various institutions.
Shaping the Future of Trade and Industry
The forum was a crucial space for the critical analysis of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (T-MEC), which directly impacts Mexico’s economic future. Crucial topics such as the renegotiation of the treaty, the nearshoring phenomenon, and Mexico’s industrialization strategy, dubbed the “Mexico Plan,” were on the table.
The Voice of Academia in Public Policy
The CUCEA delegation, including Dr. Leo Guzmán Anaya, Víctor Hugo Sánchez Sotomayor, Juan José Huerta Mata, and students such as Rubí Aseret Lozano Delgadillo, contributed to the debate on incorporating security, environment, work, and anti-corruption issues into the T-MEC. Representatives from the Department of Humanities, Arts, and Foreign Cultures of the Los Lagos University Center (CULAGOS) also joined the forum.
“It is essential that our investigations and results are heard by policymakers, businessmen, and bankers,” remarked Dr. Guzmán Anaya, emphasizing the importance of academic contributions to public policy.
The Broader Impact
The forum’s aim to spotlight the intersection of trade agreements and public policy becomes increasingly vital as nearshoring transforms global supply chains. The T-MEC’s success depends on integrating diverse interests, making academic participation indispensable.
