The State of Friborg does not intend to let the cultural landscape become fragile and announced this Friday that it had put new support measures in place. This is in parallel with ongoing work which will result in a new law on cultural affairs by 2026.

Among the main changes is the complete revision of the creative support system for the performing arts “in order to better respond to the reality on the ground and current issues”. This notably lifts the distinction between emerging and established theater companies “to better consider all of the performing arts”. In the field of current music, Friborg groups can now benefit from 40 days of annual creative residency, compared to 20 previously.

The Council of State also intends to further promote research work in the creative process. Grants for artistic research residencies have thus been created, in principle in cultural institutions. For its part, La Loterie romande introduced this year a pilot measure to help with dissemination procedures.

Several support measures for cultural actors and businesses will also be strengthened. Mentioned are the new administrative support platform BURO launched recently and the In Situ association, which is developing a free online cultural agenda. Calls for projects are also regularly launched to “strengthen the interaction of culture with the social, associative, economic and tourist fields”.
