Current Flood Alert and Weather Report for Walloon Rivers in Belgium

2024-01-03 15:48:00

Sixteen Walloon rivers were still in the flood alert phase on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., indicated the hydrometry service of the Walloon Region. The trend will nevertheless be towards stabilization, even if a slight increase is still expected on certain rivers by Thursday.

Concretely, the basins of the Haute, Moyenne and Basse Semois, the Vierre, the Chiers, the Sûre, the Our, the Haute Meuse (upstream and downstream) as well as its tributaries, the Haute Lesse, the Eau d’Heure, the Charleroi-Brussels Canal, the Senne and the Dendre are in the flood alert phase.

The levels of Viroin and Eau Noire, also in the flood alert phase, are currently falling and should return below the alert thresholds during the day.

For the Haine, the Vesdre, the Middle Meuse and its tributaries, the Lower, Middle and Upper Ourthe, the Basse Lesse, the Lhomme, the Dyle, the Lys, the Escaut and its tributaries, the Haute and Basse Sambre and their tributaries, the Amblève, the Eau Blanche, the Hoyoux, the Basse Meuse and the Mehaigne, the flood pre-alert phase has been activated.

The precipitation expected until Thursday morning should still lead to slight increases on larger rivers such as the Meuse, despite a stabilization or decline in tributaries. The Middle and Lower Ourthe as well as the Middle and Lower Semois will also be on the rise in the coming hours, probably until tomorrow morning.

Finally, La Chiers, Haute Semois and La Vierre will remain stable while the Senne, in the recession phase, should stabilize. The Dendre will see its levels rise slowly. The hydrometry service of the Walloon Region specifies that its site hydrometrie.wallonie.be is currently difficult to access due to a sharp increase in traffic.
