François De Smet came on the set of Café sansfilter to discuss current hot topics, such as the situation in the Brussels region and the election of Saliha Raiss.

Faced with the action plan announced Thursday by Alexander De Croo to deal with the problems facing the Gare du Midi, François De Smet is not satisfied. “There are some vaguenesses”, he begins by noting, pointing out the absence of budget or deadline concerning the police station which will be installed in the Gare du Midi. But what bothers the president of DéFI even more is “the publicity stunt aspect and the absence of the Gare du Nord”. Indeed, according to him, the situation of the two stations is very similar and Brussels-North deserves to be treated with the same interest. “It’s a bit easy to only focus on the Gare du Midi because it’s the showcase,” he criticizes.

For François De Smet, the Brussels region is being left behind in the face of disinvestment in the justice system and even the police. The problems of Brussels bringing up the debate of a single municipality, the president of DéFI laughs gently at the example of Antwerp. “It’s the Antwerp model that brought all the drugs to Brussels and created zombies around our stations,” he begins. “Mr. De Wever has time to lecture us on wokism while Antwerp becomes the European, even global, drug hub.”

To conclude, the president of DéFI criticizes the wearing of the veil of the alderwoman of Molenbeek, Saliha Raiss: “It is one more blow to the neutrality of the State”. For him, “a sign is not a problem in itself but becomes one when you represent something other than yourself or your voters”. He points to the need for a democratic debate and the communitarianism of Ecolo: “They are trying to bring conventional signs into the administration but for that, it must be made a point of the program which applies in all municipalities, rather than acting à la carte.”

Briefly addressing the question of the danger of religious lobbies in the political sphere, François De Smet mentions EVRAS: “We saw it again on Thursday, there is something happening which is disturbing. Religious lobbies, not concerning not just a religion, can influence politics. There must be a real split between politics and religion.”
