It’s one of the big Netflix sensations of recent days: the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, whose events take place a year before those of Cyberpunk 2077, has been a hit. Nevertheless, some fans made their displeasure known about one particular character that they didn’t like.

Video game enthusiasts have probably seen it in the last few days: CD Projekt’s video game Cyberpunk 2077 makes a resounding return to the front of the video game scene. A rescue carried out in several stages since the more than mixed reception of the title when it was released in 2020. Among the factors which contributed to a certain revival of the titlewe are obliged to salute the excellent quality work provided by Trigger and CD Projekt around the television adaptation of the game in anime with Cyberpunk : Edgerunners… And this despite the more than dramatic end of the adaptation.
Available since September 13 on Netflix, Cyberpunk : Edgerunners takes place one year before the events experienced by the player in Cyberpunk 2077. We follow the story of David Martinez, a teenager having a military implant (Sandevistan) which he recovers after a shooting. He then becomes a edgerunner, a kind of mercenary paid black for different tasks: data theft, assassination… Missions involving his share of hemoglobin and tension but that David never does alone: he is always accompanied by teammates who become friends , like Rebecca. A young girl resulting from a species of mixture between Jinx of League of Legends and Borderlands’ Tiny Tina, ready to shoot anything that moves to save her pals.
Except that here, everything does not go as planned and it is clearly not a happy ending which is taking shape for David and his companions. The latter, having become the leader of his squad, decides to attack Arasaka: the largest security company in the world. It is the great entity responsible for his evils from the beginning. She has a weapon of mass destruction, a humanoid called Adam Smasher technological implants from head to toe. He mercilessly kills Rebecca and David, while the latter has sacrificed himself to protect Lucy: his girlfriend and member of the group renowned for his skills in hacking. He will therefore not be able to honor his promise to accompany her to the Moon. This is also the last scene of the anime, where we see Lucy alone on the Earth satellite.

A particularly moving and heartbreaking conclusion for many spectators, who decided to concoct a plan of revenge in order to eliminate Adam Smasher in Cyberpunk 2077. Indeed, it is a character that we see in the prologue and that players can kill in the last chapters of the title. In any case, it is not the will that is lacking, as evidenced by the publications that have emerged on the Internet in recent days:

At Afterlife during the prologue, V and Jackie Welles order a David Martinez. However, we explain to the player that only mercenaries with legendary death have the privilege of seeing their name attached to a cocktail to taste. Moreover, there are even ways to get in the skin of David Martinez or find the Rebecca’s arms in the title. Finally, for PC gamers with a not too sensitive soul, modder Protostar has even concocted a special menu screen paying homage to the anime. I’m not crying you’re crying.
