September 2023 is the perfect time to return to Night City and resume your life as a “cyber” mercenary in the shoes of V, hero and/or heroine of Cyberpunk 2077. With update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion , the Action-RPG developed by CD Projekt RED is more attractive than ever.
A major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077
On September 26, 2023, Night City welcomes the first and final expansion of Cyberpunk 2077. Named Phantom Liberty, this DLC offers nothing less than a new story taking the form of a futuristic techno-thriller that fits perfectly into V’s already eventful life. Idris Elba even steals the show from Keanu Reeves in a spy story with a conspiracy background. This internationally renowned British actor plays Solomon Reed, a former secret service agent (FIA for Federal Intelligence Agency) of the New United States of America (or NUSA).
V, still looking for a cure, is contacted by a legendary netrunner – Songbird – to rescue the president of the NUSA. Space Force One has just been shot down by Colonel Hansen’s forces and crashed with Rosalind Myers in Dogtown, a neighborhood of Night City that is not under the city’s jurisdiction, but under that of a responding militia in the name of Barghest. Our mercenary will have to make a choice that could even save his life, because Phantom Liberty offers a new ending to Cyberpunk 2077. And it will cause a lot of ink to flow.
NB Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.0 focuses on overhauling several gameplay mechanics and offers very little new content with the exception of 3 radio stations and a mini-game. However, this update significantly improves several game systems including enemy AI, police, V perks and implants and even adds vehicle combat. CP 2077 is getting a facelift, and it’s a great thing.

Cyberpunk 2077 sequel announced?
One of the endings of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty could well announce the next episode of the saga initiated in December 2020 by CD Projekt RED studios. Indeed, if V decides to follow the orders of the FIA, and therefore of Solomon Reed and Rosalind Myers, the Relic is removed from his skull after an operation which is not without consequences. V wakes up in 2079 after 2 years in a coma, and that’s not the worst. Our mercenary learns from Solomon Reed that he will never be able to use implants again because his neural network was damaged during the surgery. So the “cyberpunk” life is over for V who is condemned to once again become “an anonymous person in the crowd”.
And that’s not the only major change V discovers when he wakes up. Night City is no longer the same in 2079. The world has changed enormously, starting with the dystopian city where Cyberpunk 2077 takes place. In the space of two years, the Arasaka corporation completely disappeared from the city and was replaced by another corporation called Zetatech whose advent raises many questions. A new corporate war (the fifth) would even be on the agenda, unless it is the second war of unification. Finally, the mayor of Night City entrusted the protection of citizens to the armed forces of the corporations, thus reducing the scope and therefore the power of the police (NCPD).
