Thomas Voeckler, the coach of the French cycling team and who is currently following the Tour de France for France Télévisions, unveiled on Wednesday a list of 13 riders for the World Championships which will take place on September 27 on the Imola circuit (Italy). This preselection is made up of 13 runners. The final selection of the 8 holders will be communicated at the end of the Tour de France.
The France team will be led by Julian Alaphilippe. There are also runners in sight in recent days on the Grande Boucle such as Guillaume Martin, Pierre Rolland, Warren Barguil or Quentin Pacher. Winner of the 8th stage at Loudenvielle, Nans Peters was also called up by Thomas Voeckler.
Thibaut Pinot’s doubts
There remains the unknown Thibaut Pinot, injured in the back and in difficulty on the Tour. The leader of Groupama-FDJ is waiting to see if he finds any feelings again during the next two stages before making his decision. “I told Thomas (Editor’s note: Voeckler, the coach of the France team) that I will give my answer by Thursday. Today, there is no reason for me to be there and to take someone’s place just because my name is Pinot ”, declared the rider on Monday during the rest day.
Victim of a concussion and forced to retire on Friday, Romain Bardet must observe a period of rest and could not therefore be selected.
The preselection: Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick Step), Peters, Vuillermorz (AG2R-la-Mondiale), Barguil (Arkea-Samsic), Perichon, Martin (Cofidis), Pinot, Molard, Madouas (Groupama-FDJ), Rolland, Pacher (B&B Hotels Vital Concept), Ellisonde, Bernard (Trek Segafredo)
