CYCLONIC DISRUPTION – Four regions on green alert

The warning is in effect for the Diana, Sava, Analanjirofo and Atsinanana Regions since yesterday, in relation to the cyclogenesis that is forming in the Indian Ocean.

Four regions, Diana, Sava, Analanjirofo and Atsinanana, have been declared on green alert since yesterday. Thus, a tropical storm is forming off the northeast coast of the Big Island. The green alert, a warning sign, indicates that five days before the disaster there is a cyclone in the area, but the threat that looms is still vague and unclear. The green alert concerns the inhabitants of the informed regions. The weather station is on alert and local authorities are informed of the situation. Actions will have to be taken during this green alert, it is particularly a question of hoisting the flag of the cyclone but also of listening attentively to the information concerning the weather on the radio and television.
It is also necessary to reinforce the doors and windows, in addition to having sufficient stocks of candles and electric batteries. Medicines and papers should be kept in dry places. The cyclogenesis is under surveillance and it is positioned about 957 km northeast of Vohémar. According to the weather report, it could evolve into a tropical storm from Wednesday. It is accompanied by a wind of 30 km/h and a gust of 40 km/h. The area is moving very slowly westward. The North, North-East and Center-East parts of Madagascar will observe rainy degradations from Wednesday. At the same time, another area is currently being monitored, it is located 2009 km east-north-east of Vohémar.

Vigilance

For now, the two suspicious areas are developing slowly. Yesterday’s weather report indicates that both areas are struggling in terms of development conditions. Since according to the forecasts, the conditions in terms of humidity and wind are not yet sufficient. Nonetheless, it is likely that the two areas will merge en route to Wednesday, becoming one. It could therefore be a single tropical storm. Météo Madagascar had pointed out that the risks of the formation of a cyclone would be much higher during the last two weeks of January. It is also indicated that these marine weather conditions will be present in the North, the North-East, and the Center-East of Madagascar. In the case of Madagascar, two cyclones are expected to land on the Malagasy coast. Compared to the previous season which recorded nearly six cyclones having brushed or touched the coasts.
