The Czech Republic has received preliminary consent to purchase 200,000 shells. Prime Minister of the Republic Petr Fiala announced this today, March 12, at the conference “Our security is not a given.”

According to him, at the moment, 18 countries have joined the Czech project to purchase ammunition outside the EU for Ukraine: from Canada to Germany and from the Netherlands to Poland.

“I consider this a great success. This is further proof that the Czech Republic is a full-fledged active player in European security policy, that it can use its advantages,” he said.

Fiala also pointed out that in two years the Czech Republic has supplied more than a million pieces of large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine. However, he believes that the initiative to obtain additional shells in third countries is a relatively simple mechanism, but requires know-how.

“This will bring real results for Ukrainian defense and will be able to provide it with additional support at a time when European countries do not yet have sufficient capacity for their own production,” said the head of the Czech government.

Let us remind you that the Czech Republic condemns Russia’s actions in Ukraine and advocates increasing military assistance to the Kyiv regime. In mid-February, the Czech President Peter Pavel announced the possibility of purchasing artillery shells for Kyiv in third countries. He said the Czech Republic had discovered 500,000 pieces of artillery ammunition of standard NATO caliber and another 300,000 pieces of Soviet caliber in non-EU countries. Last week, the head of the Czech government confirmed that enough money had been raised to purchase the first batch of 300,000 shells.
